Who We Are: Cumulus Indianapolis is the largest radio group in the state and currently features six radio stations in the Indianapolis area and surrounding counties: Active Rock 93.9 WNDX-FM, Country 95.5 WFMS-FM, CHR 99.5 WZPL-FM, Classic Hits 104.5 WJJK-FM, Hot AC 107.9 WNTR-FM and Sports 1430 WXNT-AM. The cluster of six radio stations reaches thousands of listeners daily. Additional duties also include the two additional markets of the Kokomo, IN 100.5 WWKI-FM and the Muncie, 102.5 WMDH-FM stations
Position Overview
CUMULUS MEDIA | INDIANAPOLIS is searching for an Assistant Chief Engineer. The assistant chief engineer assists the engineering team in this fast-paced market with the installation, maintenance/repair of studio equipment, IT support, transmitting and ancillary equipment to maintain competitive signals in the markets while complying with all FCC technical requirements. Includes: assisting with telecommunications, RF transmitters, audio components, studio, IT support, computer and networking systems.
Key Responsibilities & Qualifications
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintains radio stations, studio operations and transmitter facilities through preventative and corrective maintenance
- Follows routine maintenance procedures and schedules for electronic equipment
- Follows routine maintenance procedures and schedules for studios and radio tower sites
- Performing necessary measurements of electronic equipment performance
- Installs and performs maintenance on mixing consoles, automation servers, audio routers, recording equipment, microphones, digital audio systems, transmitters, antennas, control systems, remote equipment, etc.
- Assists with maintenance and support of computers, networks, servers, workstations and related systems
- Provide coverage in the absence of other engineering staff
- Rotating on call
- Tracking of vehicle fleet maintenance
- Facility HVAC knowledge and operational maintenance
Qualifications:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Working knowledge of applicable FCC rules and regulations preferred
- Computer literacy, or the desire to learn applicable software packages which may include (Microsoft OS, MS Office Suite, and radio automation, studio automation, software, etc.)
- Ability to troubleshoot electronic equipment to the component level preferred
- Ability to assist in troubleshooting and repairing AM and FM transmitting facilities
- Knowledge of electrical systems, UPS and generators
- Knowledge of telephone systems such as POTS, ISDN, T1, DSL and PRI circuits, and VOIP
- Interact with management and staff at all levels
- Ability to multi-task and handle pressures and deadlines and skills in prioritizing
- May be required to lift 50 pounds
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders
- Minimum 2+ years in broadcast engineering or related field
Education and Licensing:
- Associates or technical degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field or equivalent level of experience
- SBE Certification a plus
- Must possess valid state driver’s license and pass a background check including a satisfactory driving record
