Position Overview

CUMULUS MEDIA | Dallas has an opening for News Director. The ideal candidate is someone who is a local-first leader who understands story selection, the power of audio and sound along with the ability to grab the listener with compelling, fast-paced storytelling. We need someone who knows what breaking news is, how to respond to it, and most importantly, how to make our coverage shine! We are a fully staffed newsroom with all the tools you need. Now, we just need you to lead it! Social media skills (Facebook, Twitter (X), etc.) are a must. You must also be willing to hit the street and report.

 

The ideal candidate has over five years' experience in medium-to-major market broadcast news, should possess an extremely good work ethic, display a positive attitude, be a self-starter, and can lead a fast-paced newsroom.

Key Responsibilities & Qualifications

Key Responsibilities:

 

• Coordinates and executes all on-site logistics for daily appearances and live broadcasts
• Special assignment and long-range news planning
• Must coordinate breaking news coverage and oversee content on the web and social media
• Work with a variety of station personnel to produce a top-notch news cast twice per hour
• Ability to develop key relationships in the city and state
• Attends evening and weekend station events including client appearances, station events, etc., as needed
• Provides regular performance feedback to staff

 

Qualifications:

 

• Highly organized with excellent time management and multi-tasking skills
• Excellent On-Air delivery
• Must possess a valid state driver’s license
• Strong written and verbal communication, as well as interpersonal skills
• Strong understanding of digital and social media
• Requires in-office business hours with additional hours out of office, including nights, weekends, and some holidays
