What We Need:
Creates, produces, and delivers compelling on‑air content across music, entertainment, politics, news, weather, sports, traffic, and other topics that matter to listeners. Brings personality and perspective to every break, offering real‑time commentary on music, local happenings, and daily conditions such as time, weather, and traffic.Conducts interviews with artists, community voices, and listeners to deepen audience connection and enhance the show’s storytelling.
Must have a strong understanding of Rock music and the ability to speak authentically to fans of the genre. Familiarity with the West GA/East AL Columbus market is essential to reflect the community, its culture, and its local interests on air.
What You'll Do:
Deliver live newscasts and announce music playlists, along with timely weather, traffic, and sports updates, including scores, stats, and upcoming game information.
Provide engaging on‑air commentary on music and topics of interest to listeners, and conduct interviews with artists, newsmakers, and audience members.
Specialize in a specific music format such as pop, rock, country, classical, or other genres.
Write, review, and edit on‑air content including news copy, show opens, PSAs, commercials, prerecorded segments, and contest scripts.
Represent the station at promotional events and engage with listeners and community partners.
Operate the control board for studio and remote broadcasts when needed.
May directly sell advertising to clients and support revenue‑driving initiatives.
Manage program timing, run syndicated content, and schedule and play commercials.
Monitor the technical quality and accuracy of all on‑air programming from the master control room.
Protect the station’s license by censoring prohibited language during live broadcasts.
Process time‑out programming to ensure accurate playback.
Check studio equipment for proper functioning and notify Engineering of any technical issues affecting broadcast quality.
Handle emergency inserts, including breaking news, urgent updates, and required alert system tests.
What You'll Need:
Socially aware and perceptive, staying current with local and national trends as well as topics relevant to on‑air conversations.
Pleasant, charismatic, and well‑controlled voice with excellent pronunciation.
Strong communication skills for conducting engaging, thoughtful interviews.
Ability to make guests feel comfortable and encourage open, authentic conversation on air.
Excellent writing and editing skills with strong command of grammar.
Proficient in media production tools and broadcast systems.
Skilled in Microsoft Office and major social media platforms.
Selling skills may be required depending on market needs.
Language proficiency in Spanish a plus.
1-2 years’ experience as an announcer in smaller market or college station environment
4-year college degree, preferably in Communications or Broadcast Journalism
